Debra Lopez-Bonasso serves as the Education Coordinator for the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services (WVFRIS), the state’s Sexual Assault Coalition. She works closely with prevention educators in the rape crisis centers providing trainings and developing curriculum to prevent violence through primary prevention education efforts in schools and communities.
Debra also works closely with the SANE Initiative in WV and has been instrumental in working to develop SANE training opportunities for medical providers. She has facilitated the WV SANE Advisory Board, which is a state-level multidisciplinary group working collaboratively to ensure a victim-centered medical response to victims of sexual assault.
Debra serves on the Children’s Justice Task Force and on the board of CASA in Marion County. She has spent the last thirty years working in the field of education with a passion for working with children.
Before her work with WVFRIS, Debra taught in the public school system for 12 years, worked with student teachers at Fairmont State University, served as a Christian Education director for her church, and developed and coordinated Peer Support Programs as a member of the training department at Summit Center.
